Well, since I have a Blog here I may as well use it to rant/discuss/argue some things I have wanted to for a long time.
In high school I remember having a discussion with my best friend about our views on abortion. She was pro-choice, I am pro-life. I do conceed that in certain circumstances it should be a personal choice for the woman or between her and her spouse such as it the pregnancy is a result of rape or incest, or if having the child could result in the death of the mother. However, that is as far as I am willing to take it. In any other situation I would say no to an abortion.
I explained this to my friend and she asked me why. I had trouble articulating my answer at the time, but since then I have realized what it was that bothered me so much.
First of all, my religious convictions pretty much forbid abortion except in the circumstances mentioned earlier. I believe abortion is the killing of a life. I believe the fetus is a person.
Ok, so many of my friends would point out that I am trying to force my religious values on others so this is my answer.
Abortion is an avoidence of the consequences of your own actions. Everything you do in life, whether is it good or bad, or whatever, has a consequence. Anyone who engages in sexual intercourse knows the natural consequence of it and therefore they should be willing to face the consequence of pregnancy, should it arise. The risk of pregnancy is always involved even when using protection. You have a responsibility to accept the possible consequences of whatever actions you preform. You freely engage in sex and then you think you should have a right to avoid what consequences befall you? No! How many different ways can I say it? What would it take to get the message across that you have no right to terminate a pregnancy because it was unexpected, or because you don't want the child, or because it is an inconvenience? You took the risk of the consequence when you acted.
There are thousands of people who are willing to adopt the unwanted consequences of your actions so don't solve the problem by killing it.
